This is a 16-foot-6-inch Resolute touring kayak designed by Steve Killing of Onterio. The plans were purchased from Bear Mountain Boat Shop. I bastardized the top sides by making canoe-like decks and opening the cockpit to about 6 feet and adding a stretcher or footrest. It is a pleasure to paddle. It tracks very well, and the paddling seems effortless. It is the Florida version of a canoeyak, for warm calm waters. Weight came in at about 45 pounds. The hull is cedar with a feature strip, and 5/8-inch English Braids buff polyster, which is soft and pliable and is intended to be used on historic vessels to give an appearance of manila. | Decks and rails are mahogany with cedar strips and mahogany center strip. All decks are built over taped offdeck structure, removed and undersides given two coats of West epoxy. Boat encased in 6-ounce fiberglass with West epoxy 407 hardener. Finish is 3-4 coats of Z-Spar Flagship varnish purchased through Jamestown Distributors. |  |
